2014 - New Year, New Resolutions and New Start

First and foremost, I'd like to wish everyone a great 2014 with lots of joy, love and luck! I thank everyone for taking their time to read my blog in 2013 and I'll give it my utmost to improve in both quantity and quality of my blog.

The beginning of a new year means a lot to many people. However it is only a date, which is given added value and most people are having the day off to spend it with family and friends.....at the end, it's just a day, where there's nothing to do and nowhere to go ...in Suriname. If I only look at that fact, the end of every year is a greater period to look forward to than New Year's, where all parties seem to come to an end and the daily routines starts.

I ended 2013 with treating myself to a Masterclass sugar flowers and fondant from Vanilla Bourbon. Personally I had hope for a bit more guidance and time for the fondant class, but I was greatly amused by the sugar flower class, where I was given the tools and guidance to make Cattleya Orchid and Peonies from sugar paste.

However it took so long to make it, but it gave me quite an accomplishment seeing the end result. And I believe with some more practice, it will become quicker and easier to make.

For the rest, the rest of December I kept it fairly quiet. (less pounds to shed in 2014!).

The first event I participated in 2014 was no Food nor Beverage event, I took part in the annual Bigi Broki Waka (Big Bridge Walk). It was my first time, so I was not sure what to expect. There were sooo many people. It was a bit chaotic in the beginning, where everyone is trying to get on a bus to go to starting point. What I liked about the whole organization is the arrangement for hot beverages for all participants. What can be improved however is the amount of restrooms. Since drinks were for free, there was a long queue in front of all mobile restrooms. However a bigger quantity might not help in this case, but it will surely make the queues shorter.

The whole experience was something else. The walk itself took me not even an hour, but the wait was way too long. I was there at 6:00 and we started the walk at around 9:00 and I got home at around 10:00. But it is a nice start for the beginning of the year. For most people, it is their one time to at least keep their promise to exercise more. For me, it was a start for a serie of more fitness activities to come. Why? So that I can eat more without gaining weight! :p
